To MSCA Area 09 Districts:
Treatment Facility Committee
Request
MSCA Wesbsite – www.msca09aa.org
A.A. seeks to “Bridge-The-Gap” to Treatment Facilities - The
MSCA Treatment Facilities Committee (TFC) has committed them selves to reaching
out to alcoholics by working with clients
who are being discharged from treatment facilities helping welcome them to A.A. in their
residential area. We are asking the
fellowship in general, and districts more specifically to make a volunteer
commitment as temporary contacts. Temporary
Contact volunteers meet and introduce newly discharged TF client newcomers to
Alcoholics Anonymous: by taking the newcomer to a variety of A.A. meetings,
introduce him or her to other AA’s, and encourages them to take down phone
numbers of several other A.A. members to insure continued contact.
For example, districts have approached treatment
facilities about giving presentations to the facilities clients (and staff if
indicated) in their district to share with them What AA is and What AA is not, and
offering to provide Temporary Contacts upon their discharge from treatment. The
clients can fill out a request for a Temporary Contact volunteer to contact
them (preferably but not necessarily before release). The Temporary Contact
volunteer would be contacted by the TFC with the contact’s information. The
requests can be made by the TF clients that have been informed of this service,
those that haven’t been informed can’t.
MSCA’s Treatment
Facilities Committee is continually updating its Temporary Contact Volunteer
list. If you have volunteered in the
past and your information has changed, please contact us so that we may have
your updated information. If you are interested in this type of service work you
can fill out the TC form at this link: Temporary Contact from the MSCA website and emailing or contacting the
Treatment Facilities Committee by email (below), and/or attending
the Committee meeting next Area ASC or Assembly when we meet between 10:15 and
11:30AM.
In summary the TFC
is making two friendly requests of all districts in MSCA:
1.
Each district find two or more AA members (a male and a female) who are
willing to commit to be temporary contacts, and that they either get a
Temporary Contact form and fill it out and email it or bring it to the monthly
TFC meeting.
2.
Each
district make a list of Treatment Facilities in your District so that we may add
it to the Treatment Facilities Database as recommended by the TF Workbook. This
will help the Districts establish and acquaint themselves with these locations
and the MSCA TFC to become familiar with Treatment Facilities in all District
neighborhoods.
